Emblem

The Church emblem is the visual identification mark of the New Apostolic Church and thus part of its identity. The symbolism of the cross, sun, and water is a reference to the Christian church. Any further significance is not intended.

As a registered trademark, the Church emblem is protected by international law. It lends official character to Church publications, as well as to forms and letters. In public relations work the emblem, in connection with the square and the Church’s brand colour, takes on the function of a logo which, as a symbol, is identified with the Church and guarantees brand recognition.

Evolutionary theory

The New Apostolic Church does not consider the theory of evolution to be a suitable explanation for the creation because this theory does not incorporate God as the Creator. It does not, however, consider scientific insights on evolution to be in contradiction to the statements of the Bible.

The Church is careful to distinguish between the theory of evolution and evolution itself. While the theory as a science does describe the laws according to which evolution takes place, it does not give any explanation as to the origin of the creation. By contrast, evolution—that is the process of development within the living and the inanimate world—occurs according to the divinely prescribed laws of nature. It does not contradict the statements of Holy Scripture.

Euthanasia

Anyone who provides active euthanasia—that is, who performs actions that lead to the death of a dying person—violates the Fifth Commandment. Passive euthanasia—that is, the decision not to take any measures to prolong life—is not considered a violation of the Fifth Commandment, provided certain strict conditions are met. The decision to abstain from taking any measures to prolong life is first and foremost up to the patient himself. In the event there is no advance medical directive, this decision should be made solely in consultation with doctors and relatives after a responsible assessment of the patient’s best interests.
