They came en masse, the Rectors of the Cape Coastal Apostle Area, to form a bond of love in the coastal town of Lambert's Bay.
Months of planning came to fruition when Rectors from Caledon to Muizenberg converged on the quaint little fishing village on Friday, 12 April 2024. New friendships were fostered over a spitbraai on Friday evening, and soon enough, area barriers were broken as the brothers began to find the common goal.
Early on Saturday morning, it was time for the brothers to gather for their conference. Kitted out in their conference sweaters, they turned out in mass, wanting to learn from each other and foster the unity.
Soon after the conference, it was time for the potjiekos competition. Every district had to prepare a potjie, which would also serve as their evening meal. The competition was tough as everyone put their best foot (food) forward, but in the end, only one winner could be crowned.
After a peaceful night's rest, it was Sunday morning and time for the divine service for the Rectors to be held by Apostle Bradley Bourne.
As a basis for the service, a Bible text from Luke 18:29-30 was used, and Priest Reggie Jooste was called to serve along.
The soulful singing of the male choir even drew the attention of passersby as they stood still to listen to the music.
And then it was time for a visit to Huis van Liefde, a residence for the elderly. Here, the Apostle asked District Elder Kobus Louw to say a few words in Afrikaans.
The male choir then rendered a few soul-stirring anthems, which brought peace to the hearts of those in attendance. And as the brothers walked through the corridors of Huis van Liefde, a wonderful melody of Heilig, Heilig, Heilig rang out, bringing joy to those who were bedridden and could not attend the gathering.
It was then time to head home, but the friendships formed and the lingering sounds of Heilig, Heilig, Heilig will continue to live on in the hearts of all who formed part of the weekend.
