The early morning wake-up and icy temperatures did not deter the group from experiencing fellowship with one another and the beauty of God's Creation. The tangible excitement allowed for plenty of conversation, bonding, making new friends, new experiences and forging camaraderie.
After prayer by the District rector, District Elder A Jullies, the “walk leader” Priest S Clarke, addressed the young people: "Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints."
With these words, the young people of the Stellenbosch District set out to hike the mountain slopes of Banhoek Nature Conservancy in Kylemore on Youth Day, 16 June 2022.
After starting together, the group soon split up and climbed in single file whereafter many became tired, some pausing to catch their breath. As the climb became more strenuous, many started doubting their abilities, and some even wanted to give up. But all persevered despite the challenges. Many others offered a helping hand to continue as others valiantly pushed on to reach the endpoint - the waterfall.
This beautifully highlighted and exemplified the idea of fellow brothers and sisters all on the journey to the goal of our faith.
The day was crowned with everyone making the journey back safely with a renewed sense of gratitude and appreciation. Everyone could take spiritual lessons from this hike to propel them toward their heavenly goal.
