The Second National Safeguarding Facilitators Conference took place from 16-18 September 2022 at the ANEW Hotel in Green Point, Cape Town.
The purpose of the conference was to review the Sexual Misconduct Policy and to capacitate the Safeguarding Facilitators with knowledge and skills to provide support to victims and families of sexual misconduct in the Church.
District Apostle J Kriel connected to the conference from Maputo to open the conference with prayer. The programme started with a review of the Sexual Misconduct Policy. Advocate Mervyn Doralingo facilitated the policy review session and delegates provided their input. Following the policy review, Colonel Kirsten Clark, Clinical Psychologist and Head of the Psychology Investigation Unit in SAPS, presented the topic of Paedophilia and Online Grooming. Thereafter, Dr Randall Ortel, a medical doctor, presented the topic of medical examinations and sexual assault. Lastly, Arina Smith, forensic social worker and expert witness, presented the topic sexual development in children.
The conference ended with a divine service in Vredehoek Congregation. After the divine service, the delegates could spend a few special moments with the retired District Apostle N Barnes.
