On the evening of Monday, 23 October 2023, a gathering of vibrant young individuals from the Plumstead District filled Southfield Congregation, coming together for a thoughtful discussion centred around the theme “Bearing the Wait.”
Before delving into the heart of the conversation, several young individuals shared their personal experiences with waiting, whether it was for exam results or the anticipation of upcoming holidays. These narratives set the stage for a deeper exploration of waiting in a spiritual context, particularly focusing on:
1. The Nature of Our Expectation: The group contemplated whether they approached their spiritual journey with the same eagerness as they would for a much-anticipated holiday or if they found themselves mired in restlessness and anxiety.
2. The Investment of Faith: Drawing parallels to a long-term investment, the discussion turned to the concept of patiently awaiting the Lord's arrival. Participants contemplated the efforts required to receive the ultimate blessing, much like a return on a spiritual investment.
3. Understanding the Terms and Conditions: It was emphasized that belief in the Lord's imminent arrival should be complemented by a deep understanding of the "Terms and Conditions" of His coming. Key among these principles were acknowledging that God is in control, placing trust in His divine plan, and recognizing His constant work in their lives.
4. Active Waiting: Participants were encouraged to remember that, while in a state of anticipation, they should continue to work on their spiritual growth. Unity in prayer and fellowship was highlighted as a source of strength during the waiting period.
The youth were reminded that delay does not equate to denial. The Lord's timing is not a denial of blessings but rather a promise of blessings in the right season.
The discussion concluded with a powerful metaphor that left a lasting impression: all believers are similar to travellers at "God's airport," eagerly awaiting the departure of the most important flight. The time of the plane's arrival and departure remained unknown, but the imperative was to remain prepared for the momentous journey ahead.
