New Apostolic Church
Southern Africa
On Sunday 15 October 2023, more than a thousand brothers from the Cape Coastal Apostle area gathered in song for an hour-long mass sing-a-long.
This event was voluntarily open to all brothers, ranging from young people to retirees of the Apostle area. Held in Tafelsig, the church building was filled with members from the Grabouw, Caledon, Stellenbosch, Woodlands, Rocklands, Muizenberg and Eastridge Districts.
Some male choir must-haves, such as “Like men that wait”, “Shosholoza!” and “Stout-hearted men”, sent strong vibrations through the air. The male choir was accompanied by a powerful brass ensemble, organ and piano. The music programme featured soloists, orchestra and solo instrumentalists to afford the powerful voices some respite as they made a joyful sound in the beautiful church building.
As expressed by Apostle Bradley Bourne, male choir singing is unique and should be kept alive within the congregations and whenever there is fellowship. He encouraged the development of local male choirs in the congregations as well as increased participation of males in the congregational mixed choirs going forward. There was a unanimous “yes” to the question that this kind of event be an annual one.
Towards the closing of the music hour, a special monetary donation made by all present was handed to the Masakhe Foundation.
