From 9-11 June 2023, the Apostle area communications coordinators met in Cape Town for a conference.
The conference was arranged to provide a platform for the team to build and strengthen existing relationships, share experiences, explore innovative approaches, and address relevant topics in relation to the field of communication.
After the communications manager, Apostle Bradley Bourne, opened the proceedings with a prayer and an overview of the weekend, Lance Witten, Editor in Chief at IOL News, delivered an enlightening and thought-provoking keynote on the media. He highlighted the social media and AI-era, tailored messaging on different platforms, market trends, and social strategy. Thereafter, the communications team from the administration office covered the overview of publications and design elements of the Church.
The morning and mid-afternoon sessions provided the basis for the groupwork which brought the inaugural conference to a conclusion. The coordinators were also split into groups and assigned different workstreams. The workstreams included formalizing the roles and responsibilities of a congregational communications coordinator, the drawing up of a media policy and designing training curriculums.
The delegates attended the Sunday morning divine service at Table View Congregation, before making their various ways home.
The conference provided an immersive and informative experience for attendees, by promoting the sharing of knowledge, collaboration, and innovation in the field of communication.
