One of the confirmands in Hanover Park Congregation suffered a devastating loss, two days before Confirmation Day 2023, after his home and everything in it was destroyed by a fire. The tragedy left the young boy and his family with nothing. Sadly, he also lost his Confirmation suit in the blaze.

A call went out to the members of Hanover Park Congregation to assist the family. Following the selfless and generous acts of giving, the young man was blessed with a new suit, shoes, shirt and tie. Additionally, with the help of donations from the Sunday School teachers, the young man and another confirmand benefitted from even more acts of kindness. The neighbours of the boy also kindly availed their home, and this young man could celebrate his Confirmation Day with a party. 

The community, made up of kind-hearted individuals, have also started building the family a new home. While the building takes place, the family are currently living in their opposite neighbour’s house who gladly opened their door to the family.

Sonja Salie, a member of Hanover Park Congregation, says it was the most humbling experience to see the community stand together, in support of the family and thanks everyone involved for their support.
